Wedding Receptions

Danada House is a historic venue in the Chicago suburbs that affords guests a classic outdoor wedding reception experience. Nestled on a 780-acre forest preserve in Wheaton, Ill., Danada House has been one of the most unique places to have a wedding reception for more than 30 years.

The distinctive event venue offers indoor and outdoor wedding reception options including an atrium that is available year-round, so guests can comfortably enjoy the beauty of any of Chicago’s seasons during a wedding reception. In addition to modern climate control, the atrium has tile flooring, an elegant wooden dance floor, state of the art lighting and WiFi.

What Danada House offers in technical comfort it couples with old world charm. Its storied past began with its original builders, Ada and Daniel F. Rice in 1939. The couple, known for their contribution to Illinois commerce and philanthropic efforts, built the white brick, 19-room home where they often threw lavish parties. Today, their foundation still exists to help those less fortunate. The couple’s name remains on several buildings and areas of land in the Chicago area due to their generous giving. Another famous occupant of Danada House was 1965 Kentucky Derby winner Lucky Debonair, ridden by jockey Bill Shoemaker.

Along with a deep and entertaining history, Danada House also boasts one of the most beautiful views available to an outdoor wedding venue near Chicago. In 1980, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County purchased the home built by the Rice’s and the 780 surrounding acres it sits on, including its out buildings and a 23-stall Kentucky style stable. As a neighbor to Danada House, the active forest preserve is also home to the Danada Equestrian Center and a 35-acre prairie restoration initiative. Guests at Danada House are privy to all of the beautiful indigenous wildlife of Illinois including many birds, trees and grasses protected by the Forest Preserve District.

Over the last three decades, Danada House has served as one of Chicago’s top wedding reception retreats, receiving WeddingWire’s Annual Bride’s Choice Award in 2011 and in 2013, as well as regularly being featured on the Style Me Pretty Illinois blog. Brides treasure this historic spot as a can’t-wait destination for their wedding reception in online reviews. Danada House is recognized as one of the top wedding reception locations in Wheaton, Ill., on the WeddingWire Network of sites, which includes leading wedding sites such as WeddingWire, Project Wedding, Brides.com, Martha Stewart Weddings and Weddingbee.

A wedding reception in the Chicago suburbs affords guests the full range of Chicago or suburban tourist sites, and hotel accommodations near Danada House are plentiful. Out of town guests can get to the city quickly or enjoy suburban attractions such as those located right on the Forest Preserve. Picnics, hiking trails and even quaint activities like tours of a working farm are outside events that can add charm to a wedding reception experience at Danada House.
